Cobalt Acquires CGL Electronic Security, Inc.
New York, NY (May 18, 2026)– Cobalt Service Partners today announced that it has acquired CGL Electronic Security, Inc. and CGL Technologies of PA, LLC (collectively “CGL”). CGL represents Cobalt’s 20th acquisition since launching in December 2023, and its 3rd acquisition of 2026.
CGL Electronic Security, based in Westwood, MA, is a security integrator specializing in access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and life safety systems. CGL was founded in March 1998 by Ron Ludvigsen alongside Jim Gallagher and Brendan Cavanaugh and has grown over nearly three decades into a trusted partner serving high-profile customers across the region. In 2021, Ludvigsen, Gallagher, and Cavanaugh joined forces with Chris Wetzel to successfully launch CGL Technologies of PA, an expansion of the CGL model in a new market: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
"I founded CGL on a simple premise: deliver exceptional service, selling systems during the day and helping install them in the evenings. Night and day, we delivered complex integrated systems for some of the most high-profile customers in the industry. My most rewarding experience has been watching our employees grow and seeing the relationships we've built with customers become a true force-multiplier for the business," said Ludvigsen.
Wetzel shares a similar story of endurance and innovation. "After 20 years of successfully building and operating an electronic security integration company in Pittsburgh, I decided to launch CGL Technologies of PA in 2021. Ron and I developed a mutual respect through our work together in the Security Net Partnership, a foundation that shaped our shared vision as entrepreneurs and leaders in this industry."
In planning for CGL's next chapter of leadership and growth, Ludvigsen knew he needed a partner whose values aligned with his own. "Cobalt made it clear from the start that our employees were the most important part of this transaction. Their focus is on growing the business, not implementing 'efficiencies' at the expense of our culture and identity. I believe Cobalt's approach is truly revolutionary for security integrators in the M&A market," said Ludvigsen. Wetzel put it simply: "For me, it comes down to the caliber of people within the Cobalt family. Good people build great companies."
Ron Ludvigsen and Tony Federico will initially remain in a leadership capacity in Massachusetts, and then transition into advisory roles within the organization as CGL continues to grow under the Cobalt platform. Mike McGuirk has assumed the role of CEO in Massachusetts.
Chris Wetzel will remain in a leadership capacity in Pennsylvania as CEO.
