We believe a company should be more than a collection of people working toward quarterly targets. A company should be a vehicle for driving real progress that changes the lives of the people we serve and the people we employ. As we look at where we are today and where the world is heading, we are convinced that our greatest opportunity, and our deepest responsibility, is to align Cobalt around two outcomes that matter profoundly for humanity:
- Building the security experience that enterprise organizations deserve.
- Creating the best work experience on the planet for our people.
These two goals may sound separate, but they are inseparable. They reinforce each other.
Collectively, these dual outcomes are reflected in our vision: to transform the enterprise security experience. This vision applies equally to our customers and to our people. By transforming the security experience for our customers while creating the best work experience on the planet for our people, we give ourselves the opportunity to build a company that not only wins in the market, but one that truly matters – to our customers, to our people, and to society.
1. Why Security Matters and Why We Are Called to Transform It
Security is foundational to human progress. After physiological needs, Maslow puts safety and security as the next essential building block toward reaching our full potential. And today, that building block is unmistakably under threat.
Parents worry about keeping their kids safe at school. Local businesses worry about protecting their customers. Organizations across the country worry about protecting their employees. When the world feels unsafe, everything becomes harder – learning, healing, working, building, innovating, even simply being present for the people we love.
We are especially struck by what we hear from enterprise organizations like government agencies, healthcare systems, school districts, Fortune-level companies with thousands of employees and budgets in the millions. If any group should have the resources, sophistication, and desire to keep people safe, it should be them. Yet that’s not what the data shows.
The state of enterprise security today is defined by four realities:
- First: Security is now a top priority for leaders. Nearly half of U.S. organizations cite maintaining consistent security and compliance across their sites as their number-one workplace challenge.1 Seventy-five percent of businesses say security has become more important in just the past year.2 And 57% say outdated or aging physical security infrastructure is a major barrier to protecting their people.3
- Second: Budgets are increasing. Ninety percent of commercial organizations expect to spend more on security over the next twelve months.4
- Third: Enterprise organizations have very few scaled security partners to choose from. They typically cite one of four options, and those four options have an average cNPS of -13.5
- Fourth: The industry is being reshaped by rapid advancements in technology, business models, and threat landscapes. Many believe that traditional “security integrators” will be disintermediated entirely without massive transformation.6
In short, enterprise customers are caught between a rock and a hard place. Their needs are increasing. Their environments are becoming more complex. Their spending is rising. And yet, they cannot find a partner they trust or that can keep pace with the world they operate in.
That is a problem. And we believe we can fix it.
2. Our Vision: Transform the Enterprise Security Experience
We seek to become the security partner enterprise organizations deserve – the partner that helps protect their people, strengthen their operations, and unlock their capacity to do their best work.
We chose our words carefully:
- Transform – because the industry is at an inflection point, and we aim not just to participate in its evolution, but to lead it.
- Enterprise – because high-stakes, multi-site, complex organizations are the ones most underserved today, and the ones that will need the most support in the decades to come.
- Security – defined broadly as protecting people and assets, because the boundaries of security are expanding and our customers require deep and wide expertise.
- Experience – because the core failures in this industry are experiential: responsiveness, communication, partnership, clarity, and trust. We win by delivering where others don’t.
We are young, nimble, and built on a foundation of technical expertise and deep customer empathy. We have access to immense capital, world-class talent, and the patience to build something enduring. There is a massive gap in the market.
So, we are asking ourselves a simple question: Why not us?
3. Why Creating the Best Jobs on the Planet Is Essential to Our Vision
Our second goal – creating the best work experience on the planet – is not an HR initiative. It is a strategic imperative and a societal responsibility.
Research is clear:
- A job that pays well, provides dignity, supports growth, and is genuinely fulfilling is one of the most powerful forces for human well-being.
- Job satisfaction strongly predicts life satisfaction and family stability. Supportive workplaces reduce burnout, strengthen relationships, and improve mental health.
- And good jobs don’t just improve individual lives. They strengthen families, stabilize neighborhoods, and elevate entire communities. When someone loves their work and feels proud of it, the positive effects ripple outward. Their families feel it. Their children feel it. Their community feels it. Their future feels it.
We want every person at Cobalt to experience that kind of job – a job rooted in stability, belonging, pride, and possibility.
Because the best work experience produces the best people. And the best people build the best companies. And the best companies change industries.
In other words, building the best workplace on the planet is more than an important ingredient to building a game-changing experience for enterprise organizations. The latter simply does not happen without the former, which is why BOTH are encompassed within our vision.
4. The American Dream Is Fraying and Companies Must Respond
We also must acknowledge the world beyond our walls.
Upward mobility has stalled. Inequality has widened. Neighborhoods have become more segregated by income. And nearly half of Americans say the American Dream feels out of reach.
When people no longer believe that hard work leads to a better life, we lose something vital – optimism, cohesion, trust, hope.
In that environment, companies that create exceptional jobs do more than compete. They contribute to the repair of the social fabric.
By giving people stability, dignity, learning, growth, and community, we help restore the belief that progress is possible.
This is why our second goal matters. It is not an indulgence. It is a contribution to the world we want to live in.
5. Our Mission: Securing Legacies, Unlocking Possibility
Our mission captures why we exist.
Securing legacies means protecting what people, communities, and business owners value most – their people, their purpose, and their peace of mind.
Unlocking possibility means enabling growth, focus, learning, and joy in the places where people live, learn, and work.
- For parents, it means keeping their children safe and allowing them to focus on learning, friendships, and growth.
- For school administrators, it means safeguarding their campuses so teachers can inspire and students can thrive.
- For hospital leaders, it means protecting care environments so providers can focus on healing.
- For business owners, it means joining a home built on trust, with new opportunities for their teams and customers.
- For our own people, it means building careers rooted in stability, belonging, and pride, and experiencing the most fulfilling professional chapter of their lives.
This is who we serve. This is why we exist. This is the legacy we are here to protect.
6. Why These Two Goals Must Live Together
Transforming enterprise security requires extraordinary people. Creating the best work experience attracts and unleashes those people.
Delivering extraordinary security strengthens society’s ability to work, learn, heal, and build. Creating extraordinary jobs strengthens society’s ability to dream, grow, and believe in the future.
One feeds the other. One justifies the other. One enables the other.
We are building a flywheel of human progress:
Better security → Safer institutions → Stronger communities → More empowered workers → More capable innovators → Better security.
This is the company we are building. This is the work we are choosing. And this is why it matters.
